Network Engineer

The Network Engineer is the leader in designing, implementing, and maintaining’ network systems, including the hardware and software, and other data and voice communications.

Our Client is an electric cooperative is a member-owned electric utility, and they are currently seeking a Network Engineer to join their team. This is a long-term contract opportunity. Responsibilities would include:
  • Assists the senior network engineer with day-to-day operations of the network, including voice, video and data communications
  • Maintains day-to-day security of networks and servers including operating systems and applications
  • Designs and implements network connectivity for LAN and WAN connections, including documentation of network connections
  • Works closely with third party vendors (e.g. Tier 1 support, billing, outside plant, VOIP, IPTV) as well as equipment and hardware vendors
  • Provides support to subscriber support teams (technicians and customer service) as requested
  • Assists with firmware and software updates and security patches and features
  • Monitors the network for service interruptions and responds to trouble tickets and outages
  • Provides Tier 2 technical support on required escalations
  • Provisions CPE for deployment to customer homes and businesses
  • Promotes and maintains a safe working environment, observes all safety rules, and supports BARC Connects in carrying out the responsibilities of the position
  • Supports and keeps abreast of bylaws, guidelines, policies/procedures and philosophies to effectively serve and support subscribers
  • Performs other duties as assigned in order to fulfill the objectives of the company and this position
Qualifications:
  • Must maintain the highest levels of knowledge concerning CPE device provisioning
  • Must possess specific knowledge and expertise in carrier grade routing and switching, Juniper and/or Cisco equipment
  • Calix knowledge is preferred
  • Must possess a high school degree or GED equivalent. College degree is preferred
  • Must possess 5 to 10 years’ prior work experience as a network engineer, with progressive experience in carrier grade networking
  • Requires high expertise in all aspects of data networking, with specific emphasis on GPON networks and Calix, Juniper and Cisco equipment
