Laboratory Assistant - Biology/Environmental Science

Purpose and Role of Position

Laboratory assistants serve a supportive role in the academic laboratory environment.  They contribute to the safety, organization and efficiency of experiments carried out by professors and other students during academic laboratory work. This position is ideal for candidates considering a career in research, healthcare or scientific industry.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assisting instructors with setting up, conducting, and concluding experiments
  • Preparing and organizing laboratory materials, equipment, and supplies
  • Maintaining cleanliness and orderliness in the laboratory, including proper disposal of waste
  • Following safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment
  • Performing  other duties as assigned by instructors

 

General Qualifications for the Position

  • Current enrollment in the biology, environmental science, chemistry, or biochemistry majors
  • Completion of BIOL110 and CHEM161 courses
  • Sound academic standing
  • Basic understanding of laboratory procedures and safety protocols
  • Detail-oriented and organized, with a focus on accuracy
  • Ability to work independently
  • Available to work flexible hours based on laboratory needs. Most shifts will be 2-4 hours on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday.
