DEPARTMENT: CAMPUS RECREATION

JOB TITLE: Intramural Sport Official 

REPORTS TO: The position reports to the Intramural Student Manager and the Campus Recreation Supervisor

 

This position involves: setting up fields, courts etc, officiating games, attendings trainings, meetings and evaluations, post event clean up and returning equipment, organizing crowds, checking people in, ensuring waivers are signed prior to participation, operating the emergency action plan and a variety of other tasks. The position requires a high degree of assertiveness and confidence as an official will make calls and rule interpretations consistently and enforce Campus Recreation rules. Hours are generally afternoon and evening with occasional weekend duties. The numbers of hours will vary depending on the intramural sports you officiate.

 

Time Involvement:

Time commitment varies due to the number of sports being held, the number of teams and available space.  Some weeks there won't be any hours and other weeks may have as many as 8-10 hours.

 

Requirements:

  • Current CPR/AED certification (free certification classes are offered to employees who need certification)
  • Previous competitive sport and/or officiating experience required.
  • Ability to work independently and focus on tasks at hand.
  • Ability to take ownership of the facility, programs and events and perform accordingly.
  • Responsible to arrive on time and uphold employee expectations.
  • Ability to speak up and interact with patrons confidently and fairly.
  • Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations.
  • Assertiveness to enforce Campus Recreation and Intramural rules.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Intramural Handbook and ability to communicate it to participants.
