Assistants provide excellent customer service and leadership to our patrons at the Forrer Learning Commons (FLC) Public Services Desk. They will assist students, faculty, staff, and community borrowers with directional information and use of FLC services.

Responsibilities include:

  • Serve as first point of contact at the front desk
  • Explain and apply library regulations and policies
  • Open and close library as scheduled and at times without supervision
  • Must be flexible and adaptable (shifts vary, weekend and evening hours required)
  • Troubleshoot and service
    • Computers
    • Printers
    • Photocopiers
    • Microform machine
  • Assist users with
    • Simple research questions
    • Check library materials in/out
    • Course Reserves
    • Locate reserve and ILL materials.
    • Locate items for patrons
    • Sorts materials and keeps shelving cart in order.
    • Fill paper trays in copier
    • Straighten seating areas, chairs, and tables
    • Assist patrons and staff in events of emergency.
  • Monitor and maintain a secure, safe, and well-ordered library facility

General Qualifications

  • Enrolled as a full-time student at Bridgewater College 
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Must be able to demonstrate good judgement skills such as patiently seeking to understand customer’s issue and/or situation with proper follow-up and communication to circulation supervisor or FLC staff.
  • Positive presence
  • Courtesy and tact with public
  • Basic knowledge of Windows operating system
  • Must be flexible and adaptable (shift may vary, weekend and evening hours required)
